Jem Bates is a man. He was born male. At age 35 years he underwent medical treatment and surgery to identify as a woman. Now 17 years later Jem is de-transitioning and recognising he was always a man.
The Morrison government has stuck with common sense to ensure identity documents record a person’s sex. The Daily Telegraph has reported that, “A person’s gender will remain on birth certificates as the federal government pledges to override state laws and block “reckless” moves to strip the document of male and female status.

An Australian woman has attempted to have her 20-year marriage annulled. She claims she married a man but he has recently undergone transitioning treatment to identify as a woman. She wants the first marriage annulled so she can remarry the same person, but this time in a same sex marriage.
