This bioethicist doesn’t seem to understand the real meaning of the term harm
The definition of harm to children has been completely inverted. A bioethicist from the US has written an alarming article advising doctors to ignore parents when it comes to transgender children.
The article was published in a credible medical journal and reported on by The National Review.
“Maura Priest, from Arizona State University, argues that children with gender dysphoria have the right to have their puberty blocked medically — and that if parents don’t consent, the state should push them aside and do it anyway.”
Priest argues that the state and doctors can make better decisions for children than parents can.
“This is utterly horrifying,” said Kirralie Smith, spokeswoman for Binary. “Children with gender dysphoria must be treated with compassion and competency. Parents must be included in this process.”
Studies indicate that more than 80% of gender dysphoric youth desist if there is no medical intervention. There is a great deal of evidence that medical and surgical intervention is harmful in many ways.
“Transgender treatments include a great deal of medical interventions that remain untested over the long-term,” Smith said. “Other treatments have permanent and irreversible effects such as sterilisation and body disfigurement. If that isn’t harmful to children what is?”
