Parliamentary petition to reinstate Dr Jillian Spencer

Queensland residents are invited to sign a parliamentary petition to reinstate Dr Jillian Spencer.

The senior psychiatrist was stood down after questioning the use of puberty blockers on gender distressed children.

After years of campaigning to have medical and political debates about the experimental and harmful nature of medicalising children for gender distress, the Brisbane doctor has gained immense support and respect in this space.

Professional, compassionate and clear in her stance, Dr Spencer always presents a reasonable and rational argument for the need to address this growing problem. Doctors should not be censored or penalised for highlighting concerns regarding medical practices that lead to irreversible harm.

Puberty blockers are being used off-label for gender distressed children. They are being rushed onto these experimental treatments that lead to irreversible harm and do not address the underlying issues such as trauma, abuse, Autism and depression.

The parliamentary petition has already had over 6,000 signatures. Only Queensland residents can sign the parliamentary petition but all Australians can show the good doctor their support.

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House Dr Jillian Spencer is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who was suspended from her job at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in April 2023, after raising concerns about the hospital’s use of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones to treat children with gender distress. These interventions have no evidence of benefit and have long-term harms like infertility, lack of sexual function, physical health problems and the risk of detransition and regret. Dr Spencer should not have been stood down for speaking up about children being medically harmed.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure the reinstatement of Dr Jillian Spencer to her position of Senior Staff Specialist at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
