Hobart City Councillor Louise Elliot is a staunch female sex-based rights campaigner. She has been targeted several times for simply making comments that “transwomen are men and remain men.”

She has also been vindicated, apologised to and paid compensation for unfair treatments toward her. 

A year ago council colleague Ryan Posselt made horrible remarks about Ms Elliot being a “clown” during a recorded council meeting for her advocacy for female only spaces and services. He rolled his eyes, made disparaging remarks and behaved in a very petulant manner.

As a result of the video being circulated on social media a lot of comments were made about his attitude that offended many people. 

At the time he posted on X and said, “update #politas & @lgtas  : Cr Elliot posted a video of her delivering her anti trans motion. I sit next to her and let my disdain known through body language. Subsequently it was shared by an anti trans campaigner with 50k followers. Cr Elliot identified me in the comments. Since then I have received an estimated 100 hate tweets, including open threats. My wife is crying and fearful for our children’s safety. 

I’m only a councillor who wants to build a great city. I feel this is completely over the top.

Posselt has provided no evidence of the so-called threats.

At the time I and others responded to his post. I posted, 

You are in public office & you are accountable for your actions. You are free to express your misogynistic views, but you are not free from criticism. 

Women should not be forced to accept the lie that males can have access to our services and spaces if they feel like it!

Posselt felt offended and threatened by such remarks and lodged complaints against Ms Elliot for comments made by other people on her social media posts.

Incredibly, the complaint has been upheld, despite women being constantly gaslit and lied to about the ability of trans-identified people to change their sex. 

It seems Mr Posselt can have hurt feelings but the rest of us just have to lump it.

In a newly published decision, Ms Elliot has been sanctioned for comments made by others on her Facebook page and on social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).

Mr Posselt made the complaint a year ago, claiming he’d been harassed when Ms Elliot reposted old tweets from months before, including one which labelled him “misogynistic”.

Mr Posselt told the panel he believed Ms Elliot’s reposting old comments was a deliberate act to draw “derogatory” comments about him from her followers.

He said following her repost he received 10-20,000 notifications, though not all were negative.

In response to the complaint, Ms Elliot told the panel Mr Posselt was being “precious” and “hypersensitive”.

She said as public figures, they should both accept that they would face both positive and negative comments and that by requesting certain comments be removed, Mr Posselt was trying to “micromanage” opinions about him.

Ms Elliot said she could not control what was posted on her social media, but admitted it was within her power to remove comments on her Facebook page.

Councillor Elliot has been ordered to undergo “social media training” as punishment. 

It is absolutely ludicrous that this action has been undertaken at rate payers’ expense because an adult male can’t handle criticism. 

This is just a hint of what is coming as all as the Labor government rams through the Misinformation/Disinformation Bill that will make the government the sole arbiter of truth.
