Contributor Judith Hunter moved and shocked the room with her personal account

Binary hosted the first book event for Sydney with special guests mother Judith Hunter, NSW state MLC John Ruddick, Family First senate candidate Lyle Shelton and supporters on Tuesday.

Judith is chapter one of nine stories in Devasted: How gender ideology is tearing Australian families apart. The account is moving and disturbing. Judith is a loving mother who tried very hard to advocate for her mentally ill daughter but was utterly betrayed by the health system, including both the state and federal health ministers. 

Judith recounted that her daughter was suffering some serious mental health issues that were overlooked, discounted or ignored by hospital staff. The same staff who insisted after very little consultation, while ignoring the presenting factors, that they had best put her on testosterone as it is better to have a “live son than a dead daughter.” Judith utterly rejected that notion and was promptly labelled a transphobe and bigot.

For the past 6 years Judith has been advocating and raising awareness about the atrocious practices that have resulted in her daughter being irreversibly harmed and left in a worse state than ever. She has written hundreds of letters to politicians, spoken to them face-to-face and done everything in her power to raise awareness and effect change.

Judith is an incredibly inspiring and resilient mother who deserves our support and respect.

We were honoured to have Libertarian state MLC John Ruddick join us and share about his advocacy in parliament to restore parental rights, common sense and child safeguarding back into NSW. He shared about the dirty tactics used to ram through dangerous laws that are having a devastating effect on young people and families in NSW. John is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about this area and is committed to seeking better outcomes.

Lyle Shelton graciously took time out of his busy campaign schedule to address the issue of gender ideology. He has been personally impacted and is now entering his 6 year of litigation after two drag queens took offence to his very reasonable comments that drag queens are not suitable role models for children. Lyle shared about the history of gender ideology rooted in the Safe Schools program and the fallout since the same sex marriage campaign.
