Moira Deeming is back!
Moira Deeming is back in the Victorian liberal party where she belongs.
Moira was democratically elected at the last state election but was wrongfully expelled by then-leader John Pesutto for her attendance at a Let Women Speak Rally.
But this has now been overturned, Persuto has been found guilty of defaming Deeming.
Despite trying to horrendously assassinate Moira Deeming’s character, Pesutto continued to misstep, claiming that these slanderous and false accusations posed no threat to his competence as Leader of the Victorian Liberal Party.
During the first attempt to readmit her to the party, he blocked her return by voting against her. Now just days later, Deeming has been voted back in and Pesutto has lost the leadership for continually referring to her as a Nazi sympathizer or someone who associates with Nazi sympathizers.
Given that Moira is the niece of a holocaust survivor this is a particularly revolting, and deeply personal slur.
He and his leadership caused untold damage to the party, losing the defamation case and refusing to apologise and reinstate her.
Moira Deeming says she is “shell shocked” after the consecutive votes.
She said it was appropriate there was no applause when she readmitted “because this, this has all just been completely unnecessary and tragic for everybody involved”.
“I think they were probably wondering how I’m going to react to them,” she said of her Liberal colleagues.
“And to be honest, it has been a bit difficult. But a few people shook my hands.
“I have to actually give credit to John Pesutto. He did shake my hand and say sorry to me personally today.
“So thank you, Mr Pesutto, for that. That meant a lot.”
The party room voted to readmit Ms Deeming right before overthrowing Mr Pesutto.
Brad Battin successfully overthrew Pesutto in the leadership spill.
Speaking to reporters as he emerged victorious from the party room meeting, Mr Battin thanked the man he booted out.
“I want to thank John Pesutto for what he has done for our party and in service with a Liberal Party, a true believer of our values and a man of his word,” Mr Batting told reporters.
“We have an obligation to move forward.
“I’m thankful for the support of my colleagues in the party room today to ensure we can come out united and getting on message for the message we need to have.”
Hopefully, the Liberal party in Victoria realise that women’s sex-based rights are an important issue and that they need to pull together to work for those voters who reject the dangerous agenda of Labor and the Greens.
