AOC needs a biology lesson

US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, often referred to as AOC, is renowned for making silly comments. Australia’s Sarah Hansen-Young and her must be cut from the same cloth.

Upset that Texas has banned abortion for pregnancies beyond six weeks, she poorly attempted to school the state on what a woman is.

“Trans men and non-binary people can also menstruate,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, along with a screenshot of a Daily Mail headline that said: “AOC calls women ‘menstruating people’ while explaining the female body.”

“Some women also *don’t* menstruate for many reasons, including surviving cancer that required a hysterectomy. GOP mad at this are protecting the patriarchal idea that women are most valuable as uterus holders,” the New York Democrat continued.

She went on to accuse the governor of Texas of being deeply ignorant while demonstrating her own ignorance.

"I don’t know if he is familiar with a menstruating person’s body. In fact, I do know that he’s not familiar with a woman, with a female, or menstruating person’s body," she said of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. “He speaks from such a place of deep ignorance, and it’s not just ignorance. It’s ignorance that’s hurting people.”

Binary spokeswoman, Kirralie Smith, said it is hard to take AOC seriously.

“The term people includes both men and women – but only women can menstruate,” she said.

“No matter what costume someone puts on, or whose identity they claim or which drug a person takes, it is still only women who have wombs, get pregnant or have babies.

“Playing with words or attempting to redefine them is nonsensical and absurd. People like AOC need to be schooled in facts and biology if they want to be taken seriously.”
